Privacy and Cookies

Last updated: 9 August 2026

This notice explains how Nicholas O’Sullivan handles information associated with these personal publishing sites:

These are personal publishing sites. They are distinct from Suburban Australia and its service brands. If you make a business or service enquiry through Suburban Australia, Suburban Secure, Townsville Computer Man or Can They Email As Me?, the Suburban Australia group Privacy Policy applies to that interaction.

Information handled

When you visit one of these sites, hosting and security systems may automatically record technical information such as:

  • your IP address, browser and device type;
  • the requested page, referring page, date and time;
  • general location derived from an IP address; and
  • diagnostic, performance and security events.

Google Analytics is used to understand aggregate site use. It may use cookies or similar technologies and process information about pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser characteristics, referral sources and interactions with the site.

If you contact Nicholas by email, the information you provide—including your name, email address, message and any attachments—will also be handled. At the date of this notice, these sites do not provide visitor accounts, public comments, newsletter subscriptions or payment facilities.

Why information is used

Information may be used to:

  • operate, maintain and secure the sites;
  • understand aggregate readership and improve content;
  • diagnose faults, abuse or security incidents;
  • respond to correspondence and correction requests; and
  • meet legal obligations or protect lawful rights.

Personal information is not sold.

Analytics and cookies

Google Analytics is configured on the current site and archived blog. You can restrict or delete cookies through your browser settings. Google also provides information about how it uses information from sites and apps and an Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Blocking analytics or cookies should not prevent you from reading the sites, although some preferences or embedded content may behave differently.

Service providers and overseas processing

These sites rely on service providers for hosting, analytics, security, content delivery, fonts and embedded media. Providers may include Cloudflare, Google, GitHub, jsDelivr and YouTube. Their systems may process or store information outside Australia, including in the United States and other locations where they or their subcontractors operate.

Information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to operate or secure the sites, comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or investigate misuse. Each external provider handles information under its own terms and privacy practices.

Retention and security

Technical logs and analytics information are retained according to operational needs and provider settings. Email correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose of the correspondence, record-keeping, security or legal requirements.

Reasonable measures are used to protect information, but no website, email service or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure or continuously available.

Articles may link to or embed content from other websites, including videos. Loading or following that content may allow the external provider to receive technical information and apply its own cookies or tracking. This notice does not govern external websites.

Access, correction and concerns

You may ask what personal information Nicholas holds about you, request a correction, or raise a privacy concern by emailing [email protected]. Please provide enough detail to identify the relevant interaction. Identity may need to be verified before information is released or changed.

Privacy concerns will be considered in good faith and a response will be provided within a reasonable period. If the Australian Privacy Act applies to the matter and you are not satisfied with the response, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
